The plan for this November was pretty much the same as last November: Write a new novel for NaNoWriMo, and post a daily diary chronicling the journey. This year I had the added tool of the Magic Spreadsheet added into it. The plan was not just to write 50,000 words, but to do so by writing every day. So what happened? [click to continue…]

Hello, my friends! If you’ve read this blog for a while, you’ll remember the Maven cover reveal back in May, and the Nemesis reveal as well in August. Well, it has been three months, and that means it is time for Starla Huchton to reveal the next cover in her Endure Series. Starla is being very ambitious with her four-part Sci-Fi Romance series, releasing all four books in a year. So now it is time to talk about book 3. [click to continue…]

Instead of looking back on the week that was, for this week’s #WriterWednesday post, I’m going to look forward. This is probably just as well, because as everyone knows, this past week has pretty much been a gall stone of a week. It will pass, but not easily. Instead, I’m looking forward, and finding a new experience on my horizon for this weekend: Capclave! Despite the fact that Capclave is pretty much in our back yard, this year will be the first year for us to attend. [click to continue…]

This post is partly inspired by a post from P.C. Haring. P.C. has had a very bad September. The theme of his post is “Why do we fall, sir?” The answer, of course, is so we can learn to get back up. But that got me thinking… There are many reasons why we fall. Some trip. Some will leap for greatness and fail to catch themselves. And some… are pushed. [click to continue…]

When I was re-listening to the audio for The Business of being an Author from Balticon 47, I was reminded of an issue that I had started to address a while ago, but then I got sidetracked and let it slide by the wayside. And that issue is branding. No, not the kind of branding made popular by cowboys marking cattle as part of their herds… Or maybe I do mean that kind of branding, just not as applied with hot irons on tender, living flesh. At least not mine. [click to continue…]

Yes, this is a #WriterWednesday post, but as I am writing it, it is Tuesday, September 3rd. This posts marks the 99th consecutive day that I have written something as tracked by The Magic Spreadsheet. So why am I writing about Day 99 when the post goes live on day 100? Well, for one thing, there is a long-standing tradition that you never talk about something you are about to do, because if you do, the forces of the universe realign to create situations where you cannot achieve the very thing you just told the world that you are about to do. And that would be very bad. [click to continue…]

If you’ve paid attention on this blog, you’ll know that I’m a big supporter of the Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences from Tee Morris and Philippa Ballantine. I’ve done reviews on Phoenix Rising and The Janus Affair, the two released novels for the Ministry, and I’ve even written, performed, and produced an episode for the Ministry’s podcast Tales from the Archives. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the opportunity to post about the Ministry Initiative, the Kickstarter project to raise funding for a tabletop Role Playing Game based on the Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences. Part of the Kickstarter was The Ministry Protocol, an anthology of short stories written by authors carefully selected by Tee and Pip. And that is what we’re talking about today… [click to continue…]

The Alpha Read for The Perils of Prague continues. The pace is a bit slow so far, but I have two readers who have given me good, consistent feedback. Once they’ve gotten about half-way through the book, I’ll begin working on the third draft and shortly after that the Beta Read should begin. I have to admit that I have been tickled with some of the comments I’ve got from the Alpha Readers… [click to continue…]

A lot can change in a year, and yet, a year can speed by you so fast, leaving so much undone.
This time last year, I was looking back at what I had done since my last birthday, and making plans for how I was going to move forward over the next year. Looking at it now, it sure seems like a lot of the things I had planned out last year didn’t end up happening. At least, the way things developed certainly was not what I originally planned. Whether that will turn out to be for good or for ill, time will tell. Perhaps I’ll know next year. [click to continue…]
