in Novels, Pimpin' Your Friends

Today, I have the opportunity to do a very special post in the Pimpin’ Your Friends category. The friend in question is the lovely and talented Starla Huchton. Starla is not only a friend, she’s my cover artist. She did the cover for the e-book of my short story “Welcome to Paradox” and she will be doing the cover for my steampunk novel The Perils of Prague. She’s got a very nice business as a freelance graphic designer over at Designed by Starla, doing book covers for independent authors and publishers. Today, Starla is releasing a very special cover, and I have the privilege of bringing that cover to you.

What makes this cover special, is the fact that Starla isn’t just talented, she’s multi-talented. In addition to her cover art, Starla is an artist and a podcaster. In 2009, she released her first novel, The Dreamer’s Thread, as a full cast podcast, which went on to become a finalist for the 2010 Parsec Awards. She’s also lent her voice to a number of other podcasts, and as an audiobook narrator. Her writing has appeared in the Erotica a la Carte podcast, a short story for The Gearheart, and an episode of the Tales from the Archives podcast for which she was a finalist for the 2012 Parsec Awards. Her second novel, a Steampunk adventure entitled Master of Myth, was the first place winner in the Fantasy/Science Fiction category of The Sandy Writing Contest held annually by the Crested Butte Writers Conference.

So how does this make this cover special? Because this cover is for Maven, book 1 of The Endure Series, Starla’s third novel and the first in a series of four novels. Maven is a Science Fiction Romance for New Adults slated to be released on June 3rd, 2013, but you get to see the cover today. But first, here’s the blurb on the book to whet your appetite for it.

How far would you go for love?

Since losing her parents at 14, young prodigy Dr. Lydia Ashley has focused on one thing: an appointment on the Deep Water Research Command Endure. Now 21, she’s about to realize that dream, but nothing is how she imagined it would be. Her transitional sponsor forgets her, her new lab is in complete chaos, and, as if that weren’t enough, she’s about to discover something so horrific it could potentially destroy all life on the planet.

Daniel Brewer, a noted playboy and genius in his own right, may be exactly what she needs… Or he may make everything worse.

Has she finally found a puzzle she can’t solve?

All right. I’ve teased you long enough. Now that I’ve got you interested in the story… here’s the cover.
