It is past time I put out some kind of writing update. Well past time, in fact, since I’ve done a fair amount of writing since the last update, although I haven’t gotten much written lately. The last time I had checked in here about my writing progress, was back on February 26th, over two weeks ago, and at that time I’d written about 1000 words on “Mist”, bringing it up to about 1800 or so words. I followed this up by stealing some time on the ride in to work by writing during the carpool into work for about 300 words a pop. This got “Mist” up to about 2500 words. Not really great progress.

About ten days ago, I posted about being invited to write in another author’s universe. At the time, I was ecstatic just for being offered the chance to contribute to another author’s universe. Of course, the easy part is getting the invitation. Then you have to come up with an actual idea for the story, get it approved, and then write the sucker.

Yesterday was a day for great news to come my way. Not all of the good news happened yesterday, but it was the day that word reached me on a number of things. If any of this is news to you, I’m happy to be the bearer of glad tidings. [click to continue…]

For those with no interest in the Super Bowl, such as myself, I thought I’d provide a little update on how things have been going in the studios lately. As usual, things have been busy. But in comparison to recent weeks, I feel as if I’ve gotten a lot more accomplished in the past week than I have in the weeks that preceded it.

The whole point of having this blog was so I could keep you, the reader updated on the status of my latests projects. And, because I knew that you were looking for updates, I’d update my projects, and then post status. Which would bring you, the reader, back around to read.
And a whole vicious cycle ensues.
Except I haven’t been doing too well on all of that lately…

I have managed to survive last week’s surgery to correct my Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. The surgeon went in and removed an inch and a half to two inch strip off of one of my ribs so that my vein has more room and the blood flows freely from my extremities back to my heart. They tell me that the procedure worked well, although I developed a hematoma and they went back in to drain it. I know that I am still here, and while I am rather swollen, I’m not in a lot of pain.

Progress continues on Perils. Last night I sat down and managed to pound out another 2200 words while listening to Christmas music. What started out as my NaNoWriMo project for this year has now grown to over 55,000 words. Right now I’m thinking that it will probably run up around 75 thousand words for the first draft. I’ve slacked off on the writing since the end of November, but other projects are waiting for me to finish this draft, so I’ve set myself a new deadline of New Year’s Eve to get my butt in motion again.

So… I’m done, right? Well, not quite. I may have won NaNoWriMo, but I’m not done writing my story. So after taking yesterday off, I’m back to writing today. I added in another 1552 words today, bringing my grand total up to 51,785 words according to Scrivener. If you’re thinking that the math doesn’t add up with last Sunday’s post, well, you’re right. Last Sundays numbers were according to the official validation by NaNoWriMo, which shorted me 33 words for some reason. If you’ve enjoyed reading my account of my NaNoWriMo journey, please consider sponsoring my novel. There is only one day left to donate to the folks that make NaNoWriMo possible. If you’d like to help out, please check out my donations page.
