Things have been awfully busy and confused at Swimming Cat Studios of late. Yes, the Cat was confused. (extra points if you get that reference!) But today, we’re very happy to be part of a new cover reveal by author Lauren Harris. Today Lauren is revealing the cover of her new book in her Millroad Academy Exorcists series. Some of you may remember the review I posted for the first book in the series, Exorcising Aaron Nguyen. Well, in anticipation of the release of the new book in the series, Lauren is letting folks see the new cover, designed by Starla Huchton. [click to continue…]

I must apologize for not posting here lately. Life has been very busy, and in my most productive time I’ve knuckled down on doing my voice recording, to keep to the schedule I agreed on with the producer. There hasn’t been as much time for blogging as I’d like. It has helped me regain some focus, though. I have a bad habit of working on too many projects at once and losing myself between them. While it is good to have the next project waiting in the wings, one must always keep focused on the current goal. [click to continue…]

Naturally, nothing is final until we get there, but here is what I’ve been told my schedule for this year’s Balticon is going to look like. Unlike earlier years, the schedule won’t be so heavy, in part because I believe Balticon has more guests this year than they have in the past. I won’t be doing a recording of The Shrinking Man Project for Balticon this year, but I will be doing a few new and interesting things, as well as keeping up with some old favorites. We are just back from RavenCon, and already we’re looking forward to Balticon in just a few short weeks. RavenCon was a blast. I got to meet new people and visit with some old friends, and even got pulled into being part of a reading of the Eye of Argon in place of Philippa Ballantine. But that is a story for another post… This post is about Balticon 48, and what is coming up in the next few weeks. One thing that I’d nearly forgotten just jumped up and hit me by surprise: an impending publication! [click to continue…]

The 2014 convention season is about to kick off for me. This time around, the year starts off with RavenCon. Last year, I went to RavenCon as a vendor. This year, I’ll be returning as a panelist! And apparently, it is going to be a big year for RavenCon. The con hotel has already sold out, and they are trying to make arrangements with other nearby hotels. The con is less than a month off, but the schedule is starting to come together… [click to continue…]

I want your money.
This is a generally true statement, but I have this thing about providing value in exchange for payment, so I spend a good bit of time writing stories and creating voicework so that you’ll have something to make you feel a bit better about turning your money over to me. The rest? The rest is just to keep you interested until I have something ready to convince you to turn your money over to me.
Today is a little different.
Oh, I still want your money, I just don’t want you to turn it over to me. I want you to hand it over to someone else. [click to continue…]

The end is nigh! But it is not yet. This week Swimming Cat Studios and Balticon are pleased to bring you a special sneak peek at at upcoming anthology release for Balticon 47 Wrap up, part 20. The anthology is titled “The Way of the Gun” and was created by Scott Roche as a special tribute to his love of old westerns and old bushido movies. Scott has created a world where gunslingers govern their actions by the code of bushido, Followers of the Clockworker tinker and invent to improve the word, and Judges are slowly becoming corrupted by the lure of riches. Five authors now bring your their glimpses into this world, and this episode shows you three of those glimpses. [click to continue…]

One of the cool things about being a writer, even a writer who is still starting out, is that you get to meet so many talented people. And because you are a fellow writer, sometimes you get a chance to get a sneak peek at their next creative effort. I’ve had the opportunity in the past to talk to you about Maven, and about Nemesis by Starla Huchton, but this time, I’ve got a special preview of a new work by Lauren Harris, her novella “Exorcising Aaron Nguyen”. Welcome back to the eighth episode of the Balticon 47 Wrap up, proudly brought to you by Swimming Cat Studios. This week features the first to two readings that I was able to take part in at Balticon 47. Unlike last year, we’ve decided to publish the full reading and release it as a single episode. This year I was joined at the microphone by two excellent writers, PJ Schnyder, and Grig “Punkie” Larsen. This reading had been billed as a steampunk reading in the Balticon program, but didn’t exactly turn out that way. While each of us has written Steampunk at some time in the past, the reading itself ended up being a mixture of different genres. [click to continue…]

The Perils of Prauge
After only a week, I’d like to thank everyone who has offered their help towards getting The Perils of Prague ready for publication, especially considering the contact form I used last week didn’t work as expected. I’ve been contacted by eight different people so far who have voiced their willingness lend my project a hand. Some are fellow authors, who are willing to Beta read for me in exchange for having me Beta read their work. A couple are editors who are willing to offer their services if we can come to a compensation agreement that fits their available time and needs. This is exciting for me, but I still have to realize that things can fall through, and I still need a lot of help. I’ve been trying to organize the responses I’ve gotten, and get in contact with each of them. If you’d like to help out, it still isn’t too late! Just drop me an e-mail, and let me know how you’re willing to help, and what kind of compensation you’d like to have for your services. [click to continue…]
