Winter weather has had its way with me of late. Dealing with the dayjob and shoveling out from under waves of snowstorms have given me relatively little time to give attention to the blog. Today I’m home sick from work, so it occurred to me that I should finally spend a few lucid minutes working on a blog post for tomorrow and #WriterWednesday. So, if it wanders a bit, take pity on me. I’m sick.
One thing that did happen that I wanted to share: I will be a guest at RavenCon again this year! OK, that is kinda obvious from the title of this post, but hey, it is still news. [click to continue…]

I must apologize for not posting here lately. Life has been very busy, and in my most productive time I’ve knuckled down on doing my voice recording, to keep to the schedule I agreed on with the producer. There hasn’t been as much time for blogging as I’d like. It has helped me regain some focus, though. I have a bad habit of working on too many projects at once and losing myself between them. While it is good to have the next project waiting in the wings, one must always keep focused on the current goal. [click to continue…]

Naturally, nothing is final until we get there, but here is what I’ve been told my schedule for this year’s Balticon is going to look like. Unlike earlier years, the schedule won’t be so heavy, in part because I believe Balticon has more guests this year than they have in the past. I won’t be doing a recording of The Shrinking Man Project for Balticon this year, but I will be doing a few new and interesting things, as well as keeping up with some old favorites. We are just back from RavenCon, and already we’re looking forward to Balticon in just a few short weeks. RavenCon was a blast. I got to meet new people and visit with some old friends, and even got pulled into being part of a reading of the Eye of Argon in place of Philippa Ballantine. But that is a story for another post… This post is about Balticon 48, and what is coming up in the next few weeks. One thing that I’d nearly forgotten just jumped up and hit me by surprise: an impending publication! [click to continue…]

The 2014 convention season is about to kick off for me. This time around, the year starts off with RavenCon. Last year, I went to RavenCon as a vendor. This year, I’ll be returning as a panelist! And apparently, it is going to be a big year for RavenCon. The con hotel has already sold out, and they are trying to make arrangements with other nearby hotels. The con is less than a month off, but the schedule is starting to come together… [click to continue…]

In my previous post, I talked about my experiences on Friday night at Capclave. In today’s installment, I’m going to talk about what happened Saturday.
The first panel I wanted to attend on Saturday started at 10 AM. That didn’t happen. Well, actually it did happen, it just happened without me. After such a long day on Friday, I was too tired to get up early. It was after noon before I finally dragged my carcass out the door and headed to the con. When I got there I did not like what I found. Or rather, what I didn’t find. [click to continue…]

At long last, we have come down to the last episode of the Balticon 47 Wrap up. We hope you’ve enjoyed the long journey to get there, and that you will likewise enjoy this final episode. For our last episode brought to you from Balticon and Swimming Cat Studios, we bring to you the last panel from the New Media Track at Balticon 47. This panel is entitled Multi-Creatives and it is an examination of why some artists are drawn to create in more than one media, how they manage it, and why they continue with it.

As I mentioned in last week’s #WriterWednesday post, this past weekend was my first experience with Capclave. I wasn’t at all sure what to expect, but I figured that I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to attend a con in my own back yard. I expected the con to be small, but in its own way, it was bigger than usual. I guess having George R. R. Martin as your Guest of Honor will do that to your tiny literary con. This had both good and bad consequences. [click to continue…]

The end is nigh! But it is not yet. This week Swimming Cat Studios and Balticon are pleased to bring you a special sneak peek at at upcoming anthology release for Balticon 47 Wrap up, part 20. The anthology is titled “The Way of the Gun” and was created by Scott Roche as a special tribute to his love of old westerns and old bushido movies. Scott has created a world where gunslingers govern their actions by the code of bushido, Followers of the Clockworker tinker and invent to improve the word, and Judges are slowly becoming corrupted by the lure of riches. Five authors now bring your their glimpses into this world, and this episode shows you three of those glimpses. [click to continue…]

Time once again for another episode of the Balticon 47 Wrap up. This week, we’re looking at a subject that has come up year after year due to the huge level of interest. Whether you are a writer, podcaster, graphic artist, or some other type of creative, if you’re going to try to make your work available online, or just keep up an online presence to tell people about your works, you’re eventually going to want a content management system. While there are many good content management systems out there, for most people the best combination of power, flexibility, and control in managing your content leads to WordPress. To help you make sense of all these options, Balticon’s New Media Track put together this panel: WordPress 101 [click to continue…]
