Time once more for another episode of the Balticon 47 Wrap up. We’re continuing with the theme of narration and voice acting again this week by looking at the art of Podcast Editing. This is the art of transforming raw audio into podcast gold. Or, how not to sound like you’re working from a home studio, even though you are. This panel was moderated by Chris Snelgrove, and features panelists Hugh O’Donnell, P.C. Haring, P.G. Holyfield, and Chris Lester.

What to write?

in Writing

It is the first question, and the last question. Though it may take many different forms, it remains essentially the same question. It is a question that dogs the heels of every writer. You may fend it off for a while, but eventually, if you intend to take up the mantle of writer, you will have to face this question and find your own answer to it: What do I write now? If you’ve paid attention on this blog, you’ll know that I’m a big supporter of the Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences from Tee Morris and Philippa Ballantine. I’ve done reviews on Phoenix Rising and The Janus Affair, the two released novels for the Ministry, and I’ve even written, performed, and produced an episode for the Ministry’s podcast Tales from the Archives. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the opportunity to post about the Ministry Initiative, the Kickstarter project to raise funding for a tabletop Role Playing Game based on the Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences. Part of the Kickstarter was The Ministry Protocol, an anthology of short stories written by authors carefully selected by Tee and Pip. And that is what we’re talking about today… [click to continue…]

The previous post released earlier today was written last night before we went to bed. Little did we know then that in a few short hours events would change so much as to wreak such dramatic havoc on our day. It has been hard to bring myself to write this post, but I feel I need to put these feelings into words somehow. The following is a tragic tale, and may be too much for some readers. If you think this description fits you, I will understand if you choose to re-read the previous post and skip this one. [click to continue…]

A moment of joy…

The Alpha Read for The Perils of Prague continues. The pace is a bit slow so far, but I have two readers who have given me good, consistent feedback. Once they’ve gotten about half-way through the book, I’ll begin working on the third draft and shortly after that the Beta Read should begin. I have to admit that I have been tickled with some of the comments I’ve got from the Alpha Readers… [click to continue…]

Last May, I got to take part in a very special cover reveal for Starla Huchton‘s new novel Maven. This was an unprecedented event for Starla, and the resulting buzz from it was orders of magnitudes greater than what she had anticipated. This proved to be a great step up for the launch of her book on June 3rd and for her marketing machine to gear up for the summer. And now, we’re going to do it again. [click to continue…]

It seems a very strange thing to talk about money in a #WriterWednesday post. It seems even stranger to think that I’m talking about me receiving money. Let’s be realistic for a moment here: for all the talk about improving one’s craft and telling stories, and expressing the ideas in your head, the real reason that we write and keep writing is to make money. Ben Bova said that the only reason for writing was the expectation of being paid for it. To a lessor or a greater extent, this is true. Writing is work. Hard work. Even when we give it away, we expect to be paid for it eventually. [click to continue…]
