This announcement has actually been a long time coming. I should have posted it months ago, but I’ve been up against the wall with different projects and haven’t had the time to post. For the time being, I’m going to have to put a hold on audio projects. We have a number of unfinished repairs to the studio area that have been put off too long. So, for the time being, the studio will get packed away until the repairs are complete. [click to continue…]

Creative endeavors have taken a bit of a hit this year due to family emergencies and various domestic disasters. Things are still moving forward. I’m finally back to working on the fourth draft of Perils, and I’m on schedule to get it back to my editor by the end of January. I did finish a voice project for PC Haring, pending any retakes. But my other podcast projects have suffered, and I haven’t had much time for auditions for other voice work. That is a situation I want to rectify in the coming year. [click to continue…]
I must apologize for not posting here lately. Life has been very busy, and in my most productive time I’ve knuckled down on doing my voice recording, to keep to the schedule I agreed on with the producer. There hasn’t been as much time for blogging as I’d like. It has helped me regain some focus, though. I have a bad habit of working on too many projects at once and losing myself between them. While it is good to have the next project waiting in the wings, one must always keep focused on the current goal. [click to continue…]

I know I’ve been silent here for a while. It has been almost a month since I’ve been able to update the blog, and I’m afraid I have to say that not all the news is good. We’ve had more than our share of family drama and it has played out somewhat harshly than we had hoped. The repercussions have sent a bit of a wave through our family and we’ve in the process of picking up the pieces. [click to continue…]

Last week I talked about getting back to work on writing the next draft of The Perils of Prague. I’ve made a start on it, but it is still slow going, what with everything else going on in my life. Still, I’m making progress. Moving forward. Unfortunately, now I’ve got to add something else to the mix. I’ve got some voice work commitments, and it is time to get recording again so that I can meet them. [click to continue…]

The last time I posted about my voice work, I had been approached for three new episodes of voice work in addition to the work on P.C. Haring’s Slipspace Harbinger. Now, it is about a month later. I’ve completed two of those episodes, but now I’m going to have to put the last one on the back burner in order to concentrate on my Harbinger commitment. I would have started recording this earlier, except that I’ve added a mixer to my recording set-up. Of course, the mixer itself is what is causing the problem. [click to continue…]

A lot can change in a week. And it can change in ways you don’t really expect. If you read last week’s #WriterWednesday post, you’ll recall that last week I had signed on for a voice work contract for a property that I am really excited about doing. Well, that hasn’t changed. What has changed is that I can now say that I’m going to be part of the cast of P.C. Haring’s Slipspace: Harbinger podcast novel. Those sharp-eyed visitors to this site will notice that on my Voice Work page I already have Slipspace: Harbinger listed, and have had it there for a while. Well, that is because P.C. approached me about this role quite a while ago, but events on both our sides of the equation have delayed things from going forward until now. Now, we’re finally getting started with production! But there have been more changes… [click to continue…]

It feels like I’ve been able to get a lot done this past week. I’ve got a contract for a new voicework project, although I’ve not been given leave to identify the project yet. And that has gotten me back behind the mic again for something more than the Balticon 47 Wrap up. This weekend I recorded auditions for three new Audio Drama. Well, actually I think one of them is a continuing project that was in need of new cast members. [click to continue…]

It seems a very strange thing to talk about money in a #WriterWednesday post. It seems even stranger to think that I’m talking about me receiving money. Let’s be realistic for a moment here: for all the talk about improving one’s craft and telling stories, and expressing the ideas in your head, the real reason that we write and keep writing is to make money. Ben Bova said that the only reason for writing was the expectation of being paid for it. To a lessor or a greater extent, this is true. Writing is work. Hard work. Even when we give it away, we expect to be paid for it eventually. [click to continue…]

Sometimes, it seems like no one tells me anything. In 2012, I narrated a story for the Protecting Project Pulp podcast. Yes, they seem fond of alliteration. Anywho, I recorded The Hand of the Mandarin Quong by Sax Rohmer early in the year and sent them the raw audio, which I thought was what we had agreed upon. After several months of not hearing back from them, I contacted them to ask when I could expect the story to go live. It turns out that they hadn’t scheduled it because they didn’t have anyone to edit it. They had expected me to send them edited audio, not raw. [click to continue…]
