With a Bullet

If you read the last post, you may have noted that I mentioned the publication of my story as part of the Way of the Gun Anthology. Yup, last friday the e-book edition of The Way of the Gun: A Bushido Western Anthology went live on Amazon and PayHip. And yesterday, I got to see some interesting things happening with the e-book edition. Oddly enough, it all started with PC Haring…

Yesterday morning PC Haring was on Twitter, talking about the re-release of his book Cybrosis: A Codename CIRIS Conspiracy. PC had originally released the book as an e-book, and this year he finally re-released it in a paperback version. He commented yesterday that he had taken a peek at the paperback of Cybrosis and discovered that he’d broken the top 100 in the Science Fiction, Cyberpunk genre. He hit number 80 in books and number 72 in Kindle books. If you’re not aware, that’s really damn good!

So, with PC sharing his good news, I decided to pop over to Amazon and see just how The Way of the Gun was faring. Unsurprisingly the book was ranked something like 300,000 in all books. Not impressive in itself. But that wasn’t the only category the book was ranked in. The Way was also ranked in the Science Fiction sub-genre of Westerns. At number 31. And The Way had been marked as a hot new release!

Western Sci-Fi isn’t as big a category as Cyberpunk, but that’s still a respectable showing. But it gets better.

A few hours later, Scott Roche commented that we’d gone up in the ratings… to number 8 in Western Sci-Fi! And The Way was recognized as a hot new release! Our overall rank dropped to under 150,000. Of course, that was just a high water mark. We’ve since dropped down the rankings a bit.

Even considering the fleeting nature of Amazon ranking fame, yesterday was a day of writing WIN. Most of the credit goes to Scott Roche, who came up with the idea for the anthology and managed to make it a reality, but it is still pretty cool to have a publication that I am a part of do so well, even if it is only over a short period of time. I hope we manage to do as well when the paperback version of the book is released later this month.

I was so happy! We also had some decent sales from the direct link to payhip.
