Before I get into talking about my daily NaNoWriMo experience, I’d like to take a few moments to ask you, the reader, to lend me, and the Office of Letters and Light, your support. The Office of Letters and Light is the organization that sponsors NaNoWriMo and a bunch of other creative writing programs. While these programs are free to the participants, they do cost money. In order to help offset some of these expenses, I’m trying to raise funds to benefit these programs. I’m trying to raise $250 this year and I could use your donation. Your donation will not only help promote creative writing programs, it will also demonstrate your support for my writing, and your encouragement for me to complete this year’s novel. Please give what you can, and help to spread this message to your friends and family.

So, let’s go to the word count next. I’ve exceeded my target word count the last few days, so I’m ahead of the standard curve. Today, I took some time to catch up on some overdue correspondence, including a couple of voice projects that are waiting in the wings. This was necessary, but it cut into my writing time for today. (As did the nap I took after I got home from work, but that is another story.) As a result, I only got 1393 words written today, but my total word count is 9087, which still puts me over 700 words ahead of the standard curve. I’m still getting in daily writing, even if I’m not hitting my preferred 2000 words a day.

So here is today’s progress bar:

About today’s writing…

In today’s writing, we follow Casey back to school the day after the incident. Things are fairly quiet, as the bully Adele is out sick.Today we introduce Virginia, the smallest girl in the freshman class, and Adele’s favorite victim for the past three years. Virginia thanks Casey for coming to her defense the day before, and Casey asks her to repay the favor by watching her back and making sure that she doesn’t get cornered by Adele.

And Tony is back today. Our good looking, chess playing lunch time companion is in for a surprise as Casey decides to take him up on a friendly game of chess and proceeds to trash him. Repeatedly. Casey doesn’t think she’s very good, but it turns out that Tony is the captain of the school chess team. He assures her that she’s very, very good.

After school, this leads to some good-natured ribbing from Peggy, who stumbled onto the fact that Casey is attracted to Tony.

A little more character development as we head towards the top of the first hill and the launch of the roller coaster of events that leads us to the Bright Lands. Looking forward to getting things going…

Ok. Talk to you all tomorrow.
