Not a lot of excitement in today’s NaNoWriMo writing. It was my turn to drive the car pool to work today, although that came as a surprise when I got to the commuter lock. I didn’t mind having to drive, I just wish I had been given more notice. Needless to say, that meant that I didn’t get a chance to write on the way into or coming back from work.

After work, I decided to go to the county early voting center and see about casting my vote early. The irony here is that the whole purpose of going to vote early is to avoid long lines at polling places next Tuesday for election day. What makes it ironic is the fact that I spent an hour standing in line before I got my chance to cast my vote.

But this diary is about writing… and I did manage to do some of that, although not much. After dinner I finally sat down to try to bang out some words. And the words, they did not come easy tonight. I’d left off yesterday at a place where I wasn’t quite sure what came next. This story hasn’t been as well plotted out as others I’ve done. I’d managed to write about 350 words and reached the end of a short scene. I struggled with it for a while, but I just didn’t want to continue the action from the end of that scene, and I didn’t know where to jump to next. But I wanted to get at least 500 words on the day before calling it quits. What to do?

The answer came with the realization that the scene has two ends, and I was trying to add to the wrong one. I jumped back to the front of the scene and added another 250 words to the beginning. This brought my word total for the day up to 603, and my total so far to 2605.

Yes, I’m behind by about 700 words, but tomorrow has the advantage of not having a large chunk of hours taken up by earning a wage. This will allow me to put those hours into writing. My goal for tomorrow is to catch up (5000 words) and push forward for another thousand words to hit 6000 before the end of the day. We’ll see if I can hit both of those goals tomorrow.

As for now, I’m bushed. It is off to bed for me. Have a good one, everyone!
