Panels

It is convention time again. Time for what will be my last con of the 2016 convention season. Yup, I’m talking about the con in my back yard: Capclave. If you’re going to be in the Gaithersburg, Maryland area and you enjoy good fiction and want to hear all kinds of authors and other artists talk about the nature of modern writing, I know where you want to be this weekend.

Yes, it is almost time for Balticon, my favorite con event of the year! And that means it is also time to publish my Balticon schedule! Which I would do… if I had it. Which I don’t exactly.B50_banner_1

cropped-RavenCon2016This weekend is Ravencon! I’ll be back at the con as a guest again this year, although the con itself will be in a new site at the DoubleTree in Williamsburg Virginia. I hope you’ll be able to go to Ravencon, and if you do go, here is where you can find me.

Balticon 49 has been and gone. Unfortunately, I didn’t get my schedule far enough ahead of the con to post it. This year’s schedule was a little lighter than years past, but I did manage to get recordings for most, if not all, of my panels. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to record a lot of other panels. In years past, this would have been a minor thing. This year, I’m producing the Balticon Podcast! So I really need audio from this year’s con for the podcast! Actually, I need audio from Balticon 46, 47, 48, and 49, because the Balticon Podcast has been on a hiatus for the last few years, and we need to make up the gap. So, who has audio they can share?

Winter weather has had its way with me of late. Dealing with the dayjob and shoveling out from under waves of snowstorms have given me relatively little time to give attention to the blog. Today I’m home sick from work, so it occurred to me that I should finally spend a few lucid minutes working on a blog post for tomorrow and #WriterWednesday. So, if it wanders a bit, take pity on me. I’m sick.

One thing that did happen that I wanted to share: I will be a guest at RavenCon again this year! OK, that is kinda obvious from the title of this post, but hey, it is still news.

I must apologize for not posting here lately. Life has been very busy, and in my most productive time I’ve knuckled down on doing my voice recording, to keep to the schedule I agreed on with the producer. There hasn’t been as much time for blogging as I’d like. It has helped me regain some focus, though. I have a bad habit of working on too many projects at once and losing myself between them. While it is good to have the next project waiting in the wings, one must always keep focused on the current goal.

Naturally, nothing is final until we get there, but here is what I’ve been told my schedule for this year’s Balticon is going to look like. Unlike earlier years, the schedule won’t be so heavy, in part because I believe Balticon has more guests this year than they have in the past. I won’t be doing a recording of The Shrinking Man Project for Balticon this year, but I will be doing a few new and interesting things, as well as keeping up with some old favorites.

We are just back from RavenCon, and already we’re looking forward to Balticon in just a few short weeks. RavenCon was a blast. I got to meet new people and visit with some old friends, and even got pulled into being part of a reading of the Eye of Argon in place of Philippa Ballantine. But that is a story for another post… This post is about Balticon 48, and what is coming up in the next few weeks. One thing that I’d nearly forgotten just jumped up and hit me by surprise: an impending publication!

The 2014 convention season is about to kick off for me. This time around, the year starts off with RavenCon. Last year, I went to RavenCon as a vendor. This year, I’ll be returning as a panelist! And apparently, it is going to be a big year for RavenCon. The con hotel has already sold out, and they are trying to make arrangements with other nearby hotels. The con is less than a month off, but the schedule is starting to come together…

In my previous post, I talked about my experiences on Friday night at Capclave. In today’s installment, I’m going to talk about what happened Saturday.

The first panel I wanted to attend on Saturday started at 10 AM. That didn’t happen. Well, actually it did happen, it just happened without me. After such a long day on Friday, I was too tired to get up early. It was after noon before I finally dragged my carcass out the door and headed to the con. When I got there I did not like what I found. Or rather, what I didn’t find.
