Three weeks to Balticon 48!

We are just back from RavenCon, and already we’re looking forward to Balticon in just a few short weeks. RavenCon was a blast. I got to meet new people and visit with some old friends, and even got pulled into being part of a reading of the Eye of Argon in place of Philippa Ballantine. But that is a story for another post… This post is about Balticon 48, and what is coming up in the next few weeks. One thing that I’d nearly forgotten just jumped up and hit me by surprise: an impending publication!

WayOfTheGun2It seems that I’ve been so wrapped up in my own preparations for getting The Perils of Prague ready for publication, I’d neglected to spend any time thinking about the other work I have in the pipeline. What am I talking about? Why The Way of the Gun anthology! That’s right, The Way of the Gun is coming to print, at last. In fact, the e-book has already been released to backers and will soon be available to the book buying public. While plans aren’t definite at this stage, Scott Roche has confided that he plans to have print copies available for sale at Balticon. It just hit me this week that this will be the first time that my work has appeared in dead tree format. As popular as e-books have become, having your words in physical print is still a bit of a writing milestone.

Some other changes on a personal level. We’ve got a new-to-us vehicle and we have a buyer for my wife’s truck. Unfortunately, this has led to repeated cycles of “We don’t have a truck anymore!” thinking. This will make Balticon interesting, as we are used to piling everything up in the truck and driving that in the con. We’re not sure yet if we’ll have to cut down on the amount of stuff that we take, or if we’ll be able to pack it in. Or maybe just take two vehicles.

Of course, with a new Balticon, there will be a new Balticon Wrap-Up this summer, although we may be looking at changing the format a little. No details on that yet. Many wheels still turning in the background, but stay tuned for more news.

I’d love to share some of my Balticon schedule with you, but I haven’t heard much on that front. I know that I’ll be back as a guest again, so I’ll be on panels, and should be doing a reading and some voice work as well, but I don’t have a lot of insight into what the schedule will look like. I do know that we won’t be doing a Shrinking Man Project recording at Balticon this year. That podcast has been on hiatus and I don’t want to get into it until I’m ready to do it more justice.  That means I’ve got to get serious about working out and recording regularly. Too many things going on in my life now to make that kind of commitment.

Looking forward to seeing all the podcasters gather at Balticon again this year. It will be so good to see everyone again. I can’t wait!
